Navajo National Monument, Tonalea Arizona
Betatakin View
** Please note : A short hike is required and is not for the infirm or injured **
** In Summer months, make sure you have lots of water **
Located in the Navajo National Monument in Northern Arizona, Betatakin (meaning ledge house ) is a large cluster of well-preserved cliff dwellings thought to have been inhabited by the Anasazi during the latter 1200s. Betatakin is visible from an overlook on the Sandal Trail, which is a 1 mile round trip.
From the overlook, there is a spectacular cross-canyon view of the ancient village of Betatakin.
Although the trail is paved, I rate the terrain a 1 and a half stars due to the ascent back up to the rim from the overlook point.
